Exercise and Cancer

Exercise has many benefits for a person’s physical and mental well-being. However, when it comes to cancer, many people don’t realise how beneficial exercise is both during and after cancer treatment. Genesis Care is the largest provider of cancer and cardiac care services in Australia. With the help of our expert speaker on Women’s Health Talks, Leah Wheeler, leader of Genesis Care, we explore cancer care as well as different cancer treatments and support available to us.

Exercise and Cancer: Why Should It Be Part of Your Plan?

Exercise has many benefits for a person’s physical and mental well-being. Research suggests that there is a link between exercise and cancer treatment. According to Cancer Council, Victoria:

“Exercise benefits most people both during and after cancer treatment. It can help manage some of the common side effects of treatment (see below), speed up your return to your usual activities, and improve your quality of life. The evidence also shows there is little risk of exercise causing harm if care is taken and professional exercise advice is followed closely. For some cancers, exercise may even improve treatment outcomes.”

In her podcast, Leah Wheeler talks about how a cancer patient will need a large team. She confirms that when they know a patient is having cancer treatment, they also look at exercise, diet, and psychological health aspects as well.
